This is a set of print and digital visual aids developed as an accompaniment to Ph.D. candidate Sneha Nimmagadda’s research about child nutrition in Telangana. This was created at Revisual Labs alongside Divya Ribeiro and Gurman Bhatia.
While the endline survey is still in progress, preliminary results from the baseline survey indicate that mothers exposed to the video created are more likely to choose a bundle of protein-rich foods for their child over an equivalent cash prize.
The target audience for these visual aids was the participants of Sneha's survey - mothers of children up to 3 years of age in two districts of Telangana, India. These aids would be used by trained enumerators for data collection and dissemination of information in a control group and experimental group of participants.
Hence, several technical and social considerations backed our design - the media available in the field, familiarity of the audience with these media and the data literacy of the audience.

Statistical visualisations and charts were simplified, keeping in mind the data literacy of the participants.

Contextual illustrations and cues aided understanding of the material

Print visualisations for data collection
This was conceptualised as a survey visual aid to help capture granular data about mothers' perceptions of their child's height and weight in the surveyed districts in Telangana.

These charts were later translated to Telugu and printed out for use in the field.

Digital presentation for information dissemination
This was a research tool that was exposed to only mothers from the experimental group in order to evaluate if access to information had an impact on their child feeding practices.

This was shown to the experimental group as a video with contextual voiceover in Telugu.

I am extremely grateful to Divya Ribeiro for her trust, insightful discussions, valuable guidance, and seamless collaboration through this project. See more media on this project here.
